Knowledge — Comparison

Horizon vs manual ordering, forecast tools and ERP replenishment

An honest comparison — including what each approach does well. Horizon is a control layer, not an ERP replacement: it works on top of your existing ERP, POS and warehouse data.

vs manual ordering

People are excellent at exceptions and terrible at repetition. Manual ordering means personal habits, supplier influence and forgotten slow movers — typically up to 20% of sales lost and ~2 hours per location per day.

Horizon: targets and schedules do the repetition; people keep the exceptions. Time drops up to 85%, and the rules are the same in every location.

vs forecast-only tools

Forecasts are useful for capacity and budgeting — but as an ordering engine they are late in both directions, blind after stockouts (zero sales reads as zero demand), and hopeless on slow movers with sparse history.

Horizon: responds to stock adequacy instead of predicting sales. An out-of-stock never lowers the target; slow movers get the same discipline as bestsellers.

vs ERP min-max modules

ERPs are systems of record, and their static min-max fields do hold a number. But someone must maintain thousands of them by hand, there is no zone logic, no redistribution, and usually no lost-sales measurement at all.

Horizon: the min and max become living targets that adjust daily — while the ERP keeps doing what it does well. No rip-and-replace.

What Horizon adds beyond any ordering tool

Whole-flow scope: ordering is one of 18 technologies — redistribution between locations, expiry control, promotion layers, deficit allocation, sell-out-by-date pricing and warehouse load balancing live in the same logic.

Priority by target penetration: scarce stock and picking capacity go to the products and locations missing the largest share of their target — a fair, explainable queue.

History nobody else keeps: lost sales and overstock recorded day by day at every level. You can prove improvement, not just claim it.

No black box: every rule — targets, zones, schedules, thresholds — is visible and tunable by your managers. Explainable beats mysterious, in audits and in daily trust.
